Released in the US in May 1961, Sam Cooke followed up his big hit of earlier that year, a hedonistic dance song, Twistin' The Night Away, with this, self penned, reflective ballad. The mood of this recording, enhanced by Lou Rawls singing background vocals, is, I feel, close to the psyche of Sam Cooke, and anticipates his great recording A Change Is Gonna Come.
