GANG WAR (DON'T MAKE NO SENSE) * THE CORNER BOYS * NEPTUNE 13 * USA

They call themselves The Corner Boys, and sing about street violence being wrong, yet most people associate youth who hang around on street corners as part of the problem, and it could be said that they were, in a sense, by choosing the name The Corner Boys glamorising street culture. The Neptune label was a Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff imprint launched in March 1969, despite having the catalogue number 13 Gang War was the second release on the label. The Corner Boys started out as The Formations, this was their only release by that name - after Gang War they became The Silent Majority - the song, written by all four members of the group, is very much in the Temptations Cloud Nine mould and has a terrific early Funk backing.
