CRYING IN THE CHAPEL * THE ORIOLES * JUBILEE 5122 * USA
Formed in Baltimore, Maryland in 1946, they were originally known as The Vibranaires. In 1948 they joined It's A Natural Records and changed their name to The Orioles after recording It's Too Soon To Know a #1 R&B chart topper, and #13 in the Pop chart. the above was a huge success for the group and reached the # 11 Billboard position in 1953, although many sales were garnered by cover versions some of which charted above the original, June Valli reached (#4), Darrell Glenn (#6), Rex Allen (#8), Ella Fitzgerald (#15), and Art Lund (#23) Elvis Presley also charted at #3 in 1965.

The original version was by Darrell Glenn, whose dad wrote the song. The Orioles record was far superior, probably the best version, but it was one of the many covers.
