LING, TING, TONG * THE CHARMS * DE LUXE 6076 * USA

The Charms were from the Cincinnati area and consisted of lead singer Otis Williams, Ron Bradley, Donald Peak Joe Penn and Richard Parker, the above, a cover of the Five Keys recording on Capitol, was their ninth De Luxe release. Because influential disc jockey Alan Freed refused to play cover versions, in an attempt to promote and protect the, invariably original versions, of songs by black artists being commercially exploited by white Pop entertainers, he never played many of the records by the Charms as they had a habit of recording covers.
