BABY I DON'T CRY OVER YOU * BILLIE HOLIDAY * BRUNSWICK 9172 * UK

Recorded in New York, April 9th 1946 with Billy Kyle and His Trio: Joe Guy (trumpet) Billy Kyle (piano) Jimmy Shirley (guitar) Thomas Barney (bass) Kenny Clarke (drums) Billie Holiday (vocals) and released in the US on Decca 23957 backed with I'll Look Around (also included on the above EP.

Whether Billie Holiday is being ironic or serious on this cute ballad the speakers resound with her class and talent when this (and many, many others) is on the turntable; if she is serious it's another instance of how female Blues vocalists were asserting their independence in a example of 1940s 'girl power'.
